A few facts about the human body

 These pretty fascinating facts just go to show what a fantastic piece of machinery the body really is!

  • The brain uses over a quarter of the oxygen used by the human body
  • It takes around 12 hours for the body to digest food
  • There is roughly 60,000 miles of blood vessels inside the average size body
  • Babies are born with 300 bones whilst an adult has 206 due to fusion of bones as we grow.
  • The brain is much more active at night than during the day
  • Womens hearts beat faster than mens
  • 80% of the brain is water -hence the importance of hydration
  • The fastest growing nail is the middle finger

 

  • It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown- so turn that frown upside down 🙂 🙂
  • We use roughly 200 muscles to take just one step!
  • The left lung is smaller than the right to make room for the heart
  • The dust that we get around the house is mainly dead skin cells (Yuck!)
  • Nerve impulses travel to and from the brain at speeds of up to 250 miles per hour
  • We are about 1cm taller in the morning than in the evening as cartilage gets compressed from standing, sitting and other daily activities which makes us a tad shorter at the end of the day.
